Temecula, Calif. – The Riverside Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to celebrate Cinco de Mayo responsibly by planning ahead and designating a sober driver.

Corporal Trevor Downs emphasized the importance of responsible behavior, stating, "Don’t put yourself and others on the road at risk by driving impaired.” Downs further advised, “If you’re planning to celebrate with a drink or two, leave your keys at home and designate a sober driver.”

In addition to alcohol, the Riverside Sheriff’s Office highlighted that substances like marijuana, prescription medications, or over-the-counter drugs can also impair one's ability to drive. They advised individuals to research and understand how certain drugs may affect their driving ability.

The funding for this initiative comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
