Anza woman dies in State Route 371 incident; CHP investigates

A 48-year-old woman from Anza, California, died following an incident on the evening of August 31, 2025. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Monique Morton.

Authorities reported that the injury occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on westbound State Route 371, about 266 feet east of Bailiff Road in Anza. Morton was pronounced dead ten minutes later at a location about 226 feet east of Bailiff Road along the same route.

The California Highway Patrol – Indio is handling the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The coroner’s office has confirmed that next of kin have been notified.

“For further information refer to investigating agency,” stated officials from the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
