After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer film series has returned to Palm Springs Art Museum with “Cine Mexicano,” beginning on Thursday, June 30.

In an interview with News Channel 3, Scott Slaven, the museum’s director of marketing and design, said that this year’s film series would be the museum’s first following pandemic-forced cancellations encompassing two years.

“This year we are celebrating Mexican cinema. The series is called ‘Cine Mexicano.’ We have four films covering six decades of Mexican films,” Slaven told News Channel 3.

The four-film series will last all summer, with a movie being played on the last Thursday of June, July, August and September.

To learn more about these films, residents can visit the Palm Springs Art Museum website. The first film in the series, “El Angel Exterminador” (The Exterminating Angel), will be shown on Thursday, June 30, at 6 p.m. at the museum’s Annenberg Theater. Admission to the event is free, although an RSVP for tickets is required. The films will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. The Exterminating Angel came out in 1962, and it runs for one hour, 35 minutes.

In the interview, Slaven said tickets go fast, and as of June 9, over half of the tickets already had been claimed. However, if you aren’t able to make it to the first showing, there are the films in July, August and September. The titles are “Y Tu Mamá También” (And Your Mom, Too), “La Camarista” (The Chambermaid) and “499” respectively. The dates for those films are July 28, Aug. 25 and Sept. 29.
