Congressman Ken Calvert, representing California’s 41st district, has teamed up with fellow House members to support the Canadian Snowbird Visa Act, H.R. 3070. This bipartisan initiative seeks to extend the stay of Canadian citizens who own or lease property in the United States from 182 days to 240 days each year. Rep. Calvert is one of the original cosponsors of this legislation.

Rep. Calvert expressed his views on the bill: “The Canadian Snowbird Visa Act will provide an important boost to the economic engine of the Coachella Valley, which is fueled by visitors from Canada and all over the world.” He emphasized that extending the duration for these residents would create jobs and enhance economic growth in regions like Coachella Valley.

Congresswoman Laurel Lee also supports this act, highlighting its potential benefits for America’s economy: “I’m proud to cosponsor the Canadian Snowbird Visa Act because it’s a win for America’s economy.” She noted that Canadian residents significantly contribute to small businesses and local economies, particularly in Florida.

An economic impact study by Visit Greater Palm Springs indicated that over 300,000 Canadian visitors spent $236 million in 2017 alone. Another study by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership found that Canadians are significant non-U.S. property owners in Coachella Valley, owning seven percent of properties there.
