Nia, a black rhino at The Living Desert, has been receiving ongoing medical attention for a chronic tissue ailment under her jaw. This condition has been present since before her arrival at the facility. The veterinary and animal care teams have been committed to ensuring Nia’s comfort and well-being from the beginning.

A previous procedure ruled out dental issues as the cause of her ailment. In response, the team continued to explore various treatments. On December 12, a significant step was taken by assembling a group of specialists and consultants from across the country to address Nia’s condition and investigate its root cause.

The procedure was successful, and Nia is currently responding well to treatment. She will remain under close observation by her care team in the coming weeks. Updates on her progress will be shared on Instagram, Facebook, and The Living Desert’s blog.

The assembled team included experts such as a mega-vertebrate specialist, an anesthesiologist, veterinarians, and surgeons. “It truly takes a village,” stated representatives from The Living Desert regarding the collaborative effort involved in Nia’s care.
