Deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported burglary on June 7, 2025, at a residence in the 40 block of Via Del Rossi in Rancho Mirage. The victim stated that an unknown male was seen on video entering the home and stealing an electric bicycle during the early morning hours of June 4.
The Robbery and Burglary Suppression Team took over the investigation and identified Esther Montoya, age 42, from Coachella as a suspect. On July 25, with help from the Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells Special Enforcement Teams, deputies served a search warrant at Montoya’s residence in Coachella. Montoya was arrested without incident. Evidence found during this operation led investigators to identify Ruben Galindo, also 42 and from Coachella, as another suspect.
On July 31, deputies located Galindo near 7th Street and Orchard Avenue in Coachella with assistance from the Riverside Sheriff’s K9 Unit and local special enforcement teams. When contacted by deputies, Galindo attempted to flee on an unrelated electric bicycle and tried to discard a bag containing a loaded firearm and ammunition. He was apprehended without further incident.
Montoya faces charges including aiding and abetting during the commission of a crime and grand theft. Galindo is charged with first-degree residential burglary, conspiracy, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and a firearm, obstruction, and multiple counts related to committing felonies while out on bail. Both were booked into the John Benoit Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities ask anyone with information about this case to contact Deputy Paull at the Palm Desert Station by calling (760)-836-1600.
