Cal Fire performed a remote-area rescue Monday night for a stranded and injured hiker on the challenging Bump and Grind Trail outside of Palm Desert.

“RSO Rescue 9 performed a hoist rescue and delivered the patient to a ground ambulance,” Cal Fire said in a tweet about the 6:50 p.m. rescue. “The patient was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.”

In its report on the incident, KESQ said the hiker may have suffered a broken ankle that left him stranded in the Rancho Mirage area.

HikingGuy,” an online hiking guide, provided details about the Bump and Grind Trail, explaining that it has a total distance of 4 miles with a hike time of approximately two hours. The guide labels the difficulty level as moderate and describes the hike as “a challenging but doable climb” with a more difficult ascent but an easy decline.
