California State University-San Bernardino will host games for the west region in the NCAA Division II basketball tournament.

CSUSB was named the host after receiving the No. 2 seed from the selection committee. To close out their regular season, CSUSB lost in the championship of the conference tournament.

Despite the loss to close out the season, head coach Andy Newman expressed gratitude and optimism.

“I am really happy to be playing in March with this team,” Newman said. “When we concentrate on defending and playing together we are scary. Hopefully we can do that three more times this weekend in the NCAA Tournament. There are a lot of really good teams coming to San Bernardino to fight for this regional, so our best basketball needs to be in front of us.”

The rest of the California Collegiate Athletic Association will have a strong presence in the region and at the tournament. Half of the field is made up of teams from the CCAA, including Chico State, Cal State, San Bernardino and Cal State San Marcos. Each of the teams were ranked inside the top 10 at some point this season.

The winner from each region will advance to the Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind. The Elite Eight will take place from March 22-26 at the Ford Center.
