The Coachella Valley Firebirds secured a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday night at Acrisure Arena, extending their winning streak to six games. Carson Rehkopf led the team with his first professional hat trick, scoring three goals in the game. Gustav Olofsson contributed with three assists.
The Firebirds started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Tyson Jugnauth scored just over a minute into the game, assisted by Jacob Melanson and Ville Ottavainen. Rehkopf added another goal less than five minutes later, with help from Lleyton Roed and Olofsson.
San Jose responded early in the second period with two goals, including a powerplay score by Colin White. Rehkopf then put Coachella Valley back ahead late in the period by capitalizing on an Olofsson rebound.
Rehkopf completed his hat trick early in the third period, making it 4-2 for Coachella Valley. Cam Lund narrowed the gap for San Jose late in the game, but the Firebirds held on for the win.
Victor Ostman made 26 saves on 29 shots to earn his ninth win of the season. The Firebirds were outshot by San Jose 29-18 and finished without a powerplay goal while killing off two of three penalties. With this result, their record improves to 22-12-4-0 for the season.
After scoring his sixth goal of the season and picking up his 29th point, Jugnauth continues to lead all rookie defensemen in AHL scoring.
