A county transportation initiative is set to complete sidewalks for Carver Tract, an unincorporated area located between Indio and Coachella. Supervisor V. Manuel Perez will hold a community meeting to discuss this project and other local improvements such as alleyways and the water system.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, at Martin Van Buren Elementary School in Indio, California.

“I am proud that we have dedicated the funding to finish all the community’s sidewalks in Carver Tract by next year,” stated Supervisor Perez. “After 70 years, Carver Tract will have sidewalks as well as curbs and gutters, infrastructure that will provide a better place to live.”

The final phase of the Carver Tract Sidewalk Safety Improvement Project will install sidewalks on six remaining streets. Phase 1 was completed in November 2022, with additional sidewalk installation during the Avenue 48 widening project. Last year, $3.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act was allocated by Supervisor Perez to expedite sidewalk and drainage improvements for Carver Tract residents.

Construction is expected to begin in February 2025 and continue for about five and a half months.
