The Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT) seized approximately 300 fentanyl pills, other drugs, and a stolen handgun from a Coachella home on Wednesday, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department press release.
The warrant was acquired following an ongoing narcotics and weapons investigation.
The CCAT deputies were assisted by members of the Southern Coachella Valley Community Service District Team (SCVCSDT), the La Quinta Special Enforcement Team (SET), and the California Highway Patrol. They served a search warrant at 7 a.m. and confiscated a large number of drugs, including powder fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as other items associated with the sale of narcotics, the press release said.
“The search warrant stemmed from a narcotics and weapon investigation CCAT was conducting,” Sgt. Mariano Matos III said.
The drugs were seized from a home in the 86-200 block of Pinot Noir in Coachella. The officers made one arrest and expect to make another, Matos said.
Ty Welty, 43, was present at the time of the search. He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and in possession of ammunition, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of narcotics while armed, according to the press release.
Matos said additional charges of narcotic sales would be brought against another person who was not at the scene during the search; this person remains unnamed in the report.
