On May 5, 2024, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office took action during ABC’s statewide Cinco De Mayo Holiday Enforcement operation in Lake Elsinore. The enforcement led to the citation of 20 individuals for municipal code violations at various locations within the city.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Captain J. Rayls emphasized the significance of the operation, stating, “This operation is important to the city of Lake Elsinore to increase protection for youth and to hold accountable problem locations that contribute to an increase in crime.”

The primary goal of such enforcement operations is to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking in public spaces and to maintain community safety. These efforts aim to reduce alcohol-related violations, including open containers in public areas not designated for alcohol consumption.

Funding for proactive measures like Minor Decoy, IMPACTS, Holiday Enforcement, and Shoulder Tap comes from a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), administered through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These initiatives, carried out by local law enforcement officers, seek to limit alcohol availability to minors and curb alcohol-related crimes through a combination of enforcement, educational, and prevention programs.

ABC, through its educational, preventive, and enforcement programs, plays a crucial role in safeguarding communities and ensuring compliance with California’s alcoholic beverage laws. Licensees are encouraged to participate in ABC’s Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) training, which is now available online or in-person.
