The City of Palm Desert has announced plans to host two events this month aimed at gathering feedback on the Palm Desert Library. The city is set to assume control of the library’s operations from Riverside County in the summer.

According to an announcement on the City of Palm Desert’s website, public input sessions will be held on January 21 and January 23. The city emphasizes that these events are designed to be family-friendly, featuring activities and a special appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog for photo opportunities with residents.

The same announcement details that the session on January 21 will take place from 2-4 p.m. at the Palm Desert YMCA, located at 43-930 San Pablo Ave. The second session, scheduled for January 23, will be held from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Palm Desert iHub, located at 37023 Cook St., Suite 102.

In a move to better cater to its residents’ unique preferences, Palm Desert has terminated its partnership with the Riverside County Library System. “This decision allows us to implement more flexible and responsive strategies to address our growing community’s diverse educational and cultural needs, ensuring that our residents have access to the most relevant and efficient library services available,” said the city in its post.

As per information on the Riverside County Library System’s website, the Palm Desert Library was inaugurated in 1962 at an original location on Portola Avenue. In 1995, it moved to the College of the Desert campus. The current facility—a spacious 43,000 square-foot building—was built in collaboration with the city, county and college and opened its doors in 1996.
