On Twitter, the City of Palm Desert announced its initiative to make biking more accessible in the community while promoting National Bike Month, which is taking place all of May.
“May is National Bike Month. We’re happy to showcase the many benefits of bicycling, and we’re especially proud of the ways Palm Desert is working to make bicycling safer and more accessible, including on our segment of CV Link,” the City of Palm Desert said on Twitter. The CV Link is a 50-mile paved pathway connecting various regions of Coachella Valley.
Leading up to May’s activities, Palm Desert launched a Bicycle Rack Incentive program this past April, which continues its initiative to improve conditions for bikers, the city’s website reports. The program allows for commercial property owners to register for the installation of their choice of bike rack at little to no cost. The city has included four different types of bike racks.
According to the Palm Desert biking guide, which was linked in the tweet, the city is also proud to promote its portion of the CV Link. Running along much of Highway 111, the route welcomes pedestrians, bikers and those operating low-speed vehicles such as golf carts.
Additionally, the Palm Desert biking guide includes a list of businesses that offer bike rentals. The businesses listed are Big Wheel Tours, Bikeman, Palm Desert Bike and Moped and Tri-A-Bike. Other information that may be useful for those on the go are the average elevation levels (220 feet) and a list of “Biking Essentials,” such as sunscreen, lip balm, a first-aid kit, water, sunglasses, a camera, helmet, bike lock and a snack (such as an energy bar).
