Adrian Martinez, a 34-year-old resident of Coachella, has been charged with murder following a year-long investigation by the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit. Martinez was already in custody at the Cois Byrd Detention Center on an unrelated matter when he was formally charged on September 12, 2025. Investigators believe Martinez acted alone in this case.
The incident dates back to September 2, 2024, when deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of gunfire at a residence located in the 85400 block of Valley Road in Coachella. Upon arrival, deputies found Juan Sanchez, a 58-year-old man from Coachella, inside the home with gunshot wounds. Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation after securing the scene. Authorities have not released further details due to the ongoing nature of the case.
