A 19-year-old Coachella teenager was taken into custody and charged with attempted homicide for allegedly firing multiple shots at field workers on Friday morning, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

A report of a shooting 11:36 a.m. at an okra ranch in 46-300 block of Dillon Road brought patrol deputies from the Thermal Station to the scene, assigned to the City of Coachella, along with the Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT).

“While deputies were responding, they received information the suspect shot at workers in a field,” Deputy Sgt. Mariano Matos III said in a news release.

Officers identified the suspect as 19-year-old Eduardo Pantaleon of Coachella, Sgt. Matos said. They also located and seized a loaded handgun, according to the release.

Pantaleon was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on charges of attempted homicide and negligent discharge of a firearm, Sgt. Matos said.

None of the workers were injured during the shooting, he said.

The Sheriff’s Department report included neither a potential motive, nor details leading up to Pantaleon’s location and apprehension.
