The Coachella Valley Firebirds have announced the re-signing of goaltender Jack LaFontaine to a one-year AHL contract for the 2025-26 season.
LaFontaine, 27, participated in two games for the Firebirds last season and spent most of his time with the Kansas City Mavericks in the ECHL. During his 31 games with the affiliate team, he achieved a record of 21-8-1, with a goals-against average of 2.22 and a save percentage of .914. In postseason play, LaFontaine managed four shutouts over 15 games, helping lead Kansas City to the Western Conference Finals.
Before joining the Firebirds organization, LaFontaine played for the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears and Norfolk Admirals. He also appeared in American Hockey League games with both Syracuse Crunch and Charlotte Checkers and had two NHL appearances with the Carolina Hurricanes.
LaFontaine started his collegiate hockey career at the University of Michigan before transferring to the University of Minnesota. During his senior year at Minnesota, he posted a record of 22-7-0, a goals-against average of 1.79, and a save percentage of .900. His performance earned him several accolades including the NCAA’s Top Collegiate Goalie (Mike Richter Award), finalist for the Hobey Baker Award (NCAA Top Collegiate Hockey Player), and an NCAA (West) First-Team All-American designation.
