The Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Colorado Eagles at Acrisure Arena on May 15 in Game 2 of the best-of-five third round series, finishing with a score of 4-0. Nikke Kokko made 33 saves for his second shutout of the playoffs, and J.R. Avon scored two goals to help Coachella Valley tie the Pacific Division Finals at one game each.

The outcome matters as it keeps the Firebirds in contention for advancement in the American Hockey League playoffs. The victory was secured after a scoreless first two periods, with Avon breaking through just over a minute into the third period. Eduard Sale added another goal shortly after, followed by Avon’s second goal late in the period. Oscar Fisker Molgaard closed out scoring with an empty net goal. Avon and Fisker Molgaard now share the team lead for postseason goals at seven each.

Coachella Valley was outshot by Colorado 33-25 during this match-up. The Firebirds’ powerplay did not convert on three opportunities, while their penalty kill successfully stopped all four of Colorado’s attempts.

The series will continue in Loveland, Colorado for Game 3 on Sunday, May 17, with puck drop scheduled for 5 p.m. Pacific Time.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds serve as the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken and have recorded deep playoff runs and division titles early in their existence, according to the official website. The organization also builds community engagement through fan events and initiatives focused on youth hockey development, education, health programs, and partnerships with local nonprofits supporting families and children.

Looking ahead, fans are invited to attend official watch parties hosted by Taproom 29 at Spotlight 29 Casino as well as both Burgers & Beers locations in Rancho Mirage and La Quinta.
