Coachella Valley High School has been recognized as one of America’s Healthiest Schools. The distinction was announced on September 26, and less than 0.05 percent of schools across the United States received this honor for the 2022-2023 academic year. The recognition is presented by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (Healthier Generation), an organization dedicated to children’s health.

This prestigious accolade was awarded to 781 schools in 36 states, marking the highest number of awardees in the program’s history. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation unveiled the list of America’s Healthiest Schools for the 2022-2023 school year. Partners such as Harmony SEL at National University, Kaiser Permanente, and Kohl’s supported this recognition, which celebrates schools for their outstanding contributions to improving the physical, mental, and social-emotional well-being of students, faculty, and families.

Schools are recognized for their commitment to implementing best practices in up to nine crucial areas, assessed through Healthier Generation’s Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment. These areas include strengthening social-emotional health and learning, cultivating staff well-being, increasing family and community engagement, improving nutrition and food access, implementing local school wellness policies, bolstering physical education and activity, enriching health education, promoting tobacco-free schools, and supporting school health services. This comprehensive approach reflects the schools’ dedication to enhancing the overall well-being of students and their communities.

Kathy Higgins, the chief executive officer at Healthier Generation, expressed gratitude to America’s Healthiest Schools for prioritizing the health of their students, staff, communities, and families. She emphasized the critical role schools play in establishing whole health as foundational and essential to learning environments, especially in challenging times.

To celebrate the awardees, Healthier Generation will convene school representatives in Washington, D.C. for the America’s Healthiest Schools Leaders Summit on October 13 and 14. This event will recognize the outstanding accomplishments of these exceptional schools and highlight the commitment of Corporate Hero, Kohl’s, to prioritize the holistic health needs of both staff and students. Over 450 educators, administrators, and health experts will gather to exchange best practices and pay tribute to the awardees. America’s Healthiest Schools is one of the nation’s longest-standing recognition programs, dedicated to honoring schools that have demonstrated remarkable achievements in supporting the comprehensive well-being of their students and school personnel.
