Coachella Valley parades and festivals this weekend will herald in the holidays

The City of Coachella has announced that the Whoville Holiday Parade will traverse the city’s streets on Friday, Dec. 8. This festive event is among several being held this weekend in the Coachella Valley to usher in the Christmas season.

According to an announcement on the City of Coachella’s website, the parade, which borrows its name from the town in Dr. Seuss’ book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!,” commences at 6 p.m. It starts at Cesar Chavez St. and Westertield Way and concludes at the Veterans’ Memorial on 1500 Fourth St. In addition to a long procession of decorated cars and floats, the event will feature musical performances, DJ music, carnival rides, an ice slide and food vendors.

According to an announcement on the City of Desert Hot Springs website, Desert Hot Springs’ Magical Parade of Lights and Holiday Festival begins on Dec. 9 at 5:45 p.m. The parade starts at Palm and Mission Lakes Blvd. and ends at Palm and 2nd St. The festival, following the parade, takes place at Palm and Pierson. The event offers several freebies, including photos with Santa, carnival rides, face painting and cotton candy. Food vendors and live music will also be present.

According to an announcement on the City of Norco’s website, Norco will host its Christmas Festival & Parade of Lights on Dec. 9. Its celebration commences early with a breakfast with Santa. The parade kicks off at Sixth Street at 5 p.m. The festival offers food vendors, entertainment and activities for children including a train ride, pony rides, petting zoo games and crafts. The activities wristband is priced at $10.
