The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission (CVRM) will mark its 54th anniversary with a Rhinestone Rodeo Gala on February 19, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells. The event is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and aims to support CVRM’s initiative of “Helping Seniors find Home and Hope.” A video presentation during the gala will showcase personal stories of seniors who have found refuge at CVRM.
Darla Burkett, Executive Director of CVRM, emphasized the unique challenges faced by seniors in today’s economy. “The economy has taken its toll on everyone, but especially seniors, and especially those on a fixed income,” she said. “Seniors are being regularly priced out of their homes or lack access to affordable housing. They also face challenges such as chronic health issues, loss of family support, abuse, etc.”
Burkett noted that homeless seniors aged 55 and over face distinct challenges due to age-related vulnerabilities and social issues. She explained that while staying in CVRM’s residential programs can last up to a year depending on individual needs, funding remains crucial. “That is why generous donations are so important through events like the gala,” Burkett stated.
The evening will feature a reception with hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and a silent auction followed by dinner with music and dancing led by DJ Zypher. Auctioneer Brad Kinney will host the proceedings. Early bird pricing for tables ends December 3; tickets range from $200 for individuals to $2,500 for larger groups after January 1.
Founded in 1971 in Indio, CVRM provides food, clothing, and shelter to those in need between Blythe and San Diego. It serves over 320,000 meals annually and offers more than 108,000 bed nights of shelter each year. With extensive counseling and job training services available, CVRM reports an impressive success rate: “CVRM’s success rate for those entering residential programs and emerging employed and having housing is 80 percent.”
