Coachella Valley Rescue Mission has announced the grand opening of its expanded Women’s and Children’s Shelter. The event is scheduled for April 29, 2025, at the new shelter located at 47470 Van Buren St., Indio, CA.

The day will begin with a breakfast mixer hosted by the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce at 8:00 AM, followed by the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 AM. Attendees of the mixer are encouraged to stay for the ceremony.

The expansion, costing $2.5 million, adds 60 beds for women and children experiencing homelessness. It also includes a new kitchen, laundry facilities, common areas, and a playground. The project was funded through donations from community partners who support the mission’s goal of providing stability and independence.

“This expansion is more than just additional space—it is a promise of hope for the mothers and children we serve,” said Darla Burkett, Executive Director of CVRM. “We invite local leaders, business owners, and all members of the community to join us in celebrating this milestone and witnessing firsthand the impact of their support.”

The event will feature local dignitaries, elected officials, business leaders, donors, volunteers, and community members who contributed to making this expansion possible. Guests will have an opportunity to tour the facility and learn about ongoing efforts to address homelessness.

Founded in 1971, CVRM provides food, clothing, safe shelter, counseling services, job training, and placement assistance to those in crisis.

For more information or to RSVP for the event on April 29th, contact Kristen Crawford at 760-347-3512 ext. 246 or email [email protected].
