College of the Desert is set to host its 2025 State of the College event on October 30 at The Thompson Hotel by Hyatt. The event will run from 4:00 p.m. to 7:20 p.m., and it invites local and regional media to participate in discussions centered around this year’s theme, “Integrating AI into Education and Beyond.”
The event aims to highlight educational milestones while exploring the potential of artificial intelligence in both classroom settings and broader community applications. Attendees can expect several engaging segments, including a Student/AI Collaborative Video Contest where original videos co-created by students and AI will be showcased. The audience will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite video.
A notable feature of the evening will be an interactive segment with an AI-generated Marilyn Monroe avatar, designed to demonstrate the use of AI avatars in education and storytelling.
Kenneth Shelton, a renowned educator and best-selling author known for his expertise in Educational Technology and New Media Design, will deliver the keynote address. Shelton’s speech will focus on inclusive innovation in the age of AI.
Additionally, Val Martinez Garcia, Superintendent/President of College of the Desert, is expected to make a special announcement that could impact education at COD and throughout Coachella Valley.
Media representatives are invited for interviews between 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., as well as immediately after the event concludes. This gathering promises to bring together community leaders, educators, sponsors, and students in a collaborative effort to shape future learning experiences in Coachella Valley.
