On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m., College of the Desert will join the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills. This global event involves over 45 million participants practicing earthquake safety measures. The college’s involvement underscores its dedication to promoting emergency preparedness on campus.

The drill offers students, faculty, and staff a chance to review emergency procedures and practice the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” technique, which is vital for safety during an earthquake. Jeff Buompensiero, Acting Director of Public Safety at College of the Desert, is coordinating the event through the institution’s Public Safety Department.

To attend and cover this event, journalists are invited to request a press pass by emailing pscod@collegeofthedesert.edu before Wednesday, October 15. The drill serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of earthquake readiness for both the college community and the public.
