During the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2025, the Colorado River Station’s Marine Enforcement Unit will patrol the Colorado River to ensure safety. Historically, such weekends see increased vessel traffic and incidents involving boaters operating under the influence. The enforcement will follow a “zero tolerance” policy for violations related to personal watercraft (PWC) and boating, with a particular focus on boating under the influence and reckless operation.
Deputies are trained to detect impaired operators and will use portable breath testing devices to measure blood alcohol concentration. This enforcement effort is scheduled from July 4th through July 7th, 2025.

Additionally, extra patrol units will focus on illegal fireworks in Riverside County, where all fireworks are prohibited. Fireworks annually cause fires that result in significant damage costs. Those responsible for starting fires will be liable for suppression expenses. Instead of using illegal fireworks, residents are encouraged to attend local legal shows like the one hosted by the Blythe Fire Department at the Colorado River Fairgrounds.
