The Colorado River Station’s Marine Enforcement Unit will increase patrols along the Colorado River during the 2025 Labor Day holiday weekend. The effort, which will take place from August 30 through September 1, is in response to historically higher vessel traffic and incidents such as collisions and impaired boating during holiday periods.
Authorities stated there will be “zero tolerance” for violations related to personal watercraft and boating, with a particular focus on boating under the influence and reckless operation. Boaters are advised to remain sober, be aware of other vessels and swimmers, and wear life vests.
“Deputies are trained to detect alcohol and drug-impaired drivers and operators,” according to the announcement.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Colorado River Station emphasized its commitment to public safety. “The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Colorado River Station is dedicated to the safety of our community and wants to ensure that everyone on our waterways has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend,” officials said.
Boating safety information can be found at the California Department of Boating and Waterways website, which provides guidance on legal vessel operation in California: https://dbw.parks.ca.gov/.
