Death investigation underway after altercation in Glen Ivy area

On July 13, 2025, deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a physical altercation at a business in the Glen Ivy area of Corona. Upon arrival, they found an off-duty paramedic and firefighter attempting lifesaving measures on an unresponsive adult male. The individual, identified as Rene Nieves, a 40-year-old resident of Corona, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Another person involved in the altercation was identified and cooperated with investigators before being released. Authorities state there is no threat to the public and no additional suspects are believed to be involved.

The case remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office at a later date. No further information is available at this time.
