Death of Hemet man under investigation after incident on State Route 79

A 41-year-old man from Hemet, identified as Corey Burnham, died early Thursday morning following an incident on northbound State Route 79 near Winchester. According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, the event occurred at approximately 2:16 a.m., with Burnham pronounced dead at the scene about 15 minutes later.

The location of both the injury and death was specified as roughly 1,200 feet south of Stetson Avenue in Winchester. The California Highway Patrol – San Gorgonio Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Burnham’s death.

Authorities have notified next of kin. The case has been assigned investigation number 9655-2025-01392 by law enforcement officials.

“For further information refer to investigating agency,” stated the coroner’s office in its report.

No additional details regarding the cause or circumstances of death were provided in this release.
