A 46-year-old Black male died on December 29, 2025, while in custody at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office had custodial responsibility at the time of the incident.

The death occurred in Housing Unit 16, Day Room D of the facility. According to information released by county officials, both the manner and cause of death are currently pending further investigation.

The individual was booked into custody prior to his death. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident or the identity of the deceased.

This case is being handled under Coroner’s Case Number 2025-09874 by Riverside County officials.
