Death of Los Angeles man investigated after incident on I-10 near Thousand Palms

A 48-year-old man from Los Angeles, identified as Christopher Murphy, died on September 23, 2025, following an incident on the eastbound Interstate 10 near Thousand Palms. According to information released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, Murphy sustained injuries at approximately 7:57 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:09 a.m.

The location of both the injury and death was reported as the roadway on eastbound I-10, about one mile west of Cook Street in Thousand Palms, California. The California Highway Patrol – Indio is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Murphy’s next of kin have been notified. Authorities have directed all further inquiries to the investigating agency.
