Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas has declared his intention to run for reelection in November 2024. His campaign is set to kick off with an event scheduled for the end of January.
“I know it might seem a bit early, but time flies, and I want to start the conversation now about the accomplishments we’ve achieved together over the last four years and the exciting plans for the next four years after reelection,” said Matas in a Facebook post. “This year is going to zip by, and I’ll be keeping you all in the loop on social media with regular updates.”
According to the City of Desert Hot Springs website, Matas has been a member of the city council since 2007 before being elected mayor in 2015. In addition to his roles within city government, Matas, who was born and raised in Desert Hot Springs, has served his community as a business owner for approximately 10 years, a volunteer firefighter for two decades, and a coach and umpire for Desert Hot Springs Little League for 20 years. Currently, he manages four Homeowners Associations (HOAs) and one special district as a portfolio community manager for Desert Resort Management.
Matas shared on his Facebook post that he intends to keep residents updated on his campaign through social media and his campaign website. The website provides insights into his areas of focus such as economic development, fiscal stability, job creation, attracting retail businesses, supporting and strengthening reserves, constructing and staffing two new fire stations, career training opportunities, traffic and pedestrian safety, new city parks for youth sports, senior programs, and disaster preparedness.
The campaign kickoff event will take place on January 31 at 5:30 p.m., at the Azure Palms Resort according to another post by Matas on Facebook. Further details can be found on his campaign website.
Endorsements have already started pouring in for Matas as per information available on his campaign website. He has received support from Desert Hot Springs City Councilmembers Gary Gardner and Jan Pye, as well as Jim Nindel of the Desert Hot Springs City Planning Commission.
