On January 9, 2026, a DUI checkpoint was conducted at Monterey Avenue and Country Club Drive in Palm Desert, California. According to authorities, no arrests were made for driving under the influence during the operation. Thirteen individuals received citations for driving without a license, one person was cited for driving with a suspended license, and six others were cited for various traffic violations.
The checkpoint ran from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., during which law enforcement officers contacted 772 vehicles. Of these, 45 vehicles underwent secondary screening. No field sobriety tests were administered.
Officials stated that the locations of DUI checkpoints are selected based on data related to impaired driving incidents and crashes. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads,” according to the statement.
