The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office will conduct DUI patrols in Palm Desert on Friday, July 11th. The operation will run from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” stated Deputy Paul Abrego. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impaired driving includes more than just alcohol consumption. Certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also affect one’s ability to drive safely. It is important for individuals to follow usage directions and heed warning labels related to driving. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under its influence remains illegal.

First-time offenders caught driving impaired face average fines and penalties of $13,500, along with a suspended license.

This enforcement program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
