Fantasy Springs Resort Casino recently marked Native American Day, emphasizing the cultural heritage of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians. The event, held on September 26, 2024, also celebrated Joaquin Ortiz’s 35-year tenure at the resort.

Approximately 1,000 employees and their families attended the celebration. Highlights included a light show with 500 drones synchronized to Native American music, traditional performances, educational exhibits, and cultural demonstrations. These activities aimed to enhance understanding of Native American traditions.

The event featured vendors offering traditional dishes and crafts, along with family activities like a zip line and Ferris wheel.

Doug Welmas, Chairman of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians, acknowledged the dedication of Fantasy Springs’ employees: “Our team members are the backbone of Fantasy Springs. It’s their dedication and spirit that make this place a community, not just a destination. We’re proud to celebrate their efforts every day, and we honor them by sharing our rich heritage.”

Joaquin Ortiz was recognized for his remarkable service spanning 35 years. As the first employee to reach this milestone, his contributions have been vital to the resort’s growth. Chairman Welmas praised him: “Joaquin embodies the values we cherish most—commitment, excellence, and heart. We are truly grateful for his 35 years of service and look forward to many more.”
