Fatal single-vehicle collision under investigation in La Quinta

On May 11, 2024, at 2:25 a.m., deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision near the intersection of Monroe Street and Airport Boulevard in La Quinta. Upon arrival, they discovered a white Kia sedan overturned on the sidewalk. The driver was found inside the vehicle but could not be reached by deputies.

CalFire and American Medical Response arrived at the scene and pronounced the driver deceased. The Thermal Sheriff’s Station’s La Quinta Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team took over the investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the Kia was traveling southbound on Monroe Street when it failed to stop for the stop sign at Airport Boulevard. The vehicle lost control, hit a curb and two trees, before coming to rest on its roof. It remains unknown whether intoxication played a role in this collision.

The identity of the deceased driver has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.
