The Coachella Valley Firebirds announced on March 12 that the team has acquired forward Cooper Marody from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in exchange for future considerations.
This move is significant as Marody brings experience and scoring ability to the Firebirds, who are looking to strengthen their roster. The Firebirds serve as the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken, according to the official website.
Marody has recorded 25 points, including eight goals and 17 assists, in 41 games this season for the Phantoms. He was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Over his eight-year professional career, Marody has totaled 297 points with a +29 rating in 344 American Hockey League games. Before turning professional, he played at the University of Michigan and helped lead Sioux Falls Stampede to a Clark Cup Championship in junior hockey.
The Firebirds have recorded deep playoff runs and division titles in their early seasons, according to the official website. The organization also builds a passionate hockey community through engaging fan events and initiatives, as reported by their official site. Community outreach is another focus for the team, with efforts directed toward youth hockey development, education, and health initiatives.
In addition to bringing professional hockey to the Coachella Valley region, the Firebirds Foundation partners with local nonprofits to support families and children, according to information provided by their official website.
The next game for the Firebirds will be against Ontario Reign on Friday, March 13 at Acrisure Arena. The event will feature mascot appearances and autograph opportunities before puck drop.
