The Coachella Valley Firebirds secured a place in the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs after defeating the Abbotsford Canucks in overtime by a score of 3-2 at Rogers Forum, according to an April 4 announcement. The playoff berth was confirmed after the Tucson Roadrunners lost to the Henderson Silver Knights.

This development is significant as it marks the fourth consecutive postseason appearance for Coachella Valley, highlighting their consistent performance since joining professional hockey. The Firebirds opened scoring in the second period with Carson Rehkopf’s goal, but Abbotsford responded with two quick goals to take the lead. J.R. Avon tied the game early in the third period, and Tyson Jugnauth scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into overtime, assisted by Lleyton Roed.

Victor Ostman made 24 saves during the match as both teams registered 26 shots on goal. The Firebirds successfully killed all three penalties they faced and did not have any powerplay opportunities themselves. With this win, Coachella Valley now holds sole possession of third place in their division with a record of 39-22-5-0 and 83 points.

The team’s early seasons have included deep playoff runs and division titles according to their official website. As an affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken according to their official website, Coachella Valley has brought professional hockey to its region while building a passionate fan community through events and outreach initiatives according to their official website. Their foundation also works alongside local nonprofits to support families and children according to their official website.

Postseason opponents, dates, and locations are yet to be determined. Tickets for potential home games will go on sale early next week through team channels. The upcoming home game against Henderson Silver Knights is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m., which will also feature Autism Acceptance Night.
