With 23 games left in the regular season, the Firebirds are navigating a challenging schedule as they aim for the playoffs. The Pacific Division is highly competitive this year, with teams frequently shifting positions in the standings.

The Firebirds face a difficult stretch, playing only three home games in March. “While 11 of CV’s final 23 games are on Acrisure Arena ice, the ‘Birds will play a mere three home games in March,” highlights their demanding schedule. They have 13 games against current playoff teams and will play Henderson, San Diego, and Bakersfield among others.

Currently sitting fourth in their division with a record of 26-17-1-5 (58 points), they trail first-place Calgary by four points. In previous seasons, there were larger gaps between top and lower-seeded teams. This year shows increased parity; “between Calgary and (final playoff seed) Tucson, a standings point difference of 14 points currently exits.”

Despite roster changes due to injuries and new players like Daniel Sprong and Philip Grubauer joining the team, rookies have made significant contributions. Jani Nyman leads AHL rookies with 20 goals while Nikke Kokko has been impressive in goal.

Scoring has decreased compared to past seasons when the Firebirds led the league. They have scored 157 goals so far this season but remain on track to reach 230 goals by season’s end.

The Firebirds need to maintain strong performances to secure their playoff position amid fierce competition from other teams.
