Leadership Coachella Valley (LCV) is seeking donations for the Children’s Discover Museum of the Desert’s reimagined play area. Donors will have the opportunity to be part of meaningful work in the lives of children by supporting this new outdoor play area.

Designs for the play area include a new 855 sq. ft. sandbox for interactive play, an expanded trike track for developing motor skills and imagination, and enhanced visitor experience with seating and landscaping. The objective of the fundraiser is to $50k by the end of May.

“Each year, the LCV class selects a worthwhile project that will make a positive impact on the lives of the people in the Coachella Valley.” said LCV President and alumna Abbey Miller. “It’s especially exciting to lead this effort in helping this long standing organization reimagine its offerings for a new generation.”

The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert has been serving local families for more than 35 years. It began to take shape when a group of concerned private citizens saw a need for a children’s museum in 1986.

Upon the museums reopening, it will offer 40 new exhibits, expanded programming for older kids, a Certified Autism Center, and thanks to LCV’s Class of 2023 and generous donations from the community, an updated trike track and a new sandbox.

“We pursue the same dreams the founders had in 1986, which is to create a place that inspires a passion for learning and instill an innate curiosity,” said Children’s Museum President and CEO Cindy Burreson. “As we serve a new generation of kids and families, we seek to offer fresh exhibits and features that meet their modern needs and interests. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with LCV to make our reimagined play area a reality and to make a difference in the lives of children.”
