The Greater Coachella Valley Chamber released on Apr. 1 a legislative briefing highlighting major policy topics facing California in the 2026 session, including artificial intelligence regulation, property insurance reform, water management, renewable energy policy, and transportation funding.

These issues are expected to impact businesses and communities across the region. The chamber emphasized that proposed laws on algorithmic transparency and consumer data protections could set new standards for AI use in both public and private sectors. Efforts to address property insurance challenges tied to wildfire risk and construction costs remain unresolved but are advancing through committees.

Water management is also a priority this year with ongoing Colorado River allocation talks, agricultural mandates, and Salton Sea restoration funding under consideration. The chamber noted that changes in water availability or pricing would directly affect the local agricultural sector as well as air quality and public health outcomes related to Salton Sea policies.

In terms of energy policy, proposals concerning solar generation capacity in the Inland Empire may influence landowners, businesses, and utility ratepayers. Transportation discussions continue around AB 1421’s road usage charge framework as a possible replacement for the gas tax; ACA 12 would prohibit imposing both fees on one vehicle if approved by voters.

The chamber’s advocacy efforts extend throughout the Coachella Valley area—including Cathedral City, Coachella, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, and Rancho Mirage—according to the official website. The organization contributes to regional economic vitality by promoting tourism events that connect community members as outlined online, while offering leadership training programs and business directories to support its members according to its website.

Brandon Marley said: “The Chamber’s advocacy in Sacramento is most effective when members are engaged and informed, and we will be there representing valley businesses every step of the way.” The chamber fosters partnerships among businesses, government entities, and stakeholders across local levels as per its official site while promoting pro-business policies designed for economic growth according to their website.
