Hemet man arrested for attempted murder after highway stabbing

On June 19, 2025, deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Hemet and San Jacinto Stations responded to an assault with a deadly weapon report in the unincorporated area of Hemet. The incident occurred on the 45000 block of Highway 74 at 3:06 p.m.

Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male with injuries that appeared to be from a stab wound. The victim identified Roman Neely, a 30-year-old resident of Hemet, as the suspect. Neely was subsequently located and arrested without incident. The victim was taken to a local hospital where his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

Investigators from the Hemet Station took over the investigation. A search warrant was executed at Neely’s residence, where evidence related to the stabbing was discovered. Neely now faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon and is held at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.
