The Hemet Sheriff’s Station has received a $110,033 grant from the California Highway Patrol’s Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program. The funding will be used to increase DUI saturation patrols in the area, with a focus on identifying and arresting cannabis-impaired drivers through June 2026.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, these patrols will be conducted during peak hours in high-risk areas. The goal is to improve public safety by reducing incidents of impaired driving and educating the community about its dangers.
“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.”
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or using ride-share services to prevent impaired driving incidents.
