Homicide investigation underway after fatal shooting in Lake Elsinore

Deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at approximately 7:41 p.m. The incident occurred in the 28000 block of Wells Fargo Lane in Lake Elsinore. When deputies arrived, they found Brian Rivas, 38, of Lake Elsinore, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures but pronounced Rivas dead at the scene.

The Central Homicide Unit of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation. No arrests have been made so far and authorities say the investigation is ongoing. At this time, no additional information has been released.
