Inmate dies after medical emergency at Cois Byrd Detention Center

Deputies at the Cois Byrd Detention Center responded to a medical emergency involving an inmate in a booking area cell early Sunday morning. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, custody staff and jail medical personnel provided emergency care before paramedics arrived and transported the inmate to a local hospital.

The inmate, identified as 36-year-old Daryl Flood of Menifee, was treated at the hospital where his condition continued to worsen. Hospital staff attempted life-saving measures but Flood was pronounced dead by attending physicians.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Central Investigations have taken over the investigation into the incident. The family of Daryl Flood has been notified.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation is ongoing and did not provide further details. Those with information about this case are encouraged to contact Investigator Justin Williams at (951) 922–7152.
