Inmate dies by apparent suicide at Robert Presley Detention Center

Deputies at the Robert Presley Detention Center discovered an unresponsive male inmate in a housing unit cell on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 6:54 p.m. The inmate was identified as Ray Gonzalez, age 46, from Jurupa Valley.

Corrections staff and jail medical personnel began lifesaving measures immediately after finding Gonzalez. Paramedics also responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, Gonzalez could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the facility.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Central Investigations Bureau and the Coroner’s Bureau are leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities reported that there were no signs of foul play and indicated that the death appears to be a suicide.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office has not released further details about the circumstances surrounding Gonzalez’s death. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Investigator Brett Devine at 951-922-7695.
