Inmate dies in custody at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility

On December 29, 2025, a male inmate was found unresponsive at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Riverside County. The incident occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m., when deputies discovered Quadir Boykin, age 46 and a resident of Menifee, inside a housing unit cell.

Correctional staff and jail medical personnel began life-saving measures immediately after finding Boykin. Paramedics also responded and continued efforts to revive him. Despite these attempts, Boykin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Central Investigations Bureau and the Coroner’s Bureau arrived to take over the investigation. According to authorities, there were no signs of foul play detected at the location. Officials have notified Boykin’s family about his death.
