Joshua Tree National Park will undergo road construction starting Monday, October 28. The project is scheduled to continue until November 11 and involves temporary closures of interior park roads for up to a day at a time. Visitors are advised to use alternate routes and anticipate possible detours and delays. Access to some trailheads, restrooms, and facilities may be temporarily restricted.

The construction aims to apply fog seal treatment to the pavement, which enhances road quality by restoring the asphalt’s top layer and striping. This initiative is funded by Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act entrance fee dollars, supporting the maintenance of the park’s road system.

Park rangers advise visitors to drive responsibly by adhering to speed limits and staying on designated roads. To prepare for their visit, guests can purchase an entrance pass online at https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/74286, download the NPS App for trip planning at https://www.nps.gov/subjects/digital/nps-apps.htm, check current park conditions at http://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/conditions.htm, and find information about fire restrictions in California at http://www.fire.ca.gov.
