Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jurupa Valley Station, will conduct DUI patrols on August 8 and 9. The patrols are scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., focusing on identifying drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
Sergeant Ignacio Robles stated, “Impaired driving is preventable. It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from certain prescription and over-the-counter medications. Drivers are advised to follow usage directions and heed warning labels regarding operating vehicles. Although marijuana use is legal in California for medicinal and recreational purposes, driving under its influence remains illegal.
First-time offenders charged with DUI may face fines and penalties averaging $13,500 and could have their license suspended.
The program receives funding through a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
