Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Jurupa Valley will be conducting DUI patrols on July 25-26. The patrols will run from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” said Sergeant Ignacio Robles. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

The sheriff’s office emphasized that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol consumption. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect driving ability, and users are advised to follow usage directions and heed warning labels. Additionally, while marijuana use is legal for medicinal and recreational purposes, driving under its influence remains illegal.

Drivers caught under the influence face significant consequences, including an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.

The program receives funding from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
