Today, Congressman Ken Calvert of California’s 41st district expressed his support for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act following its passage. In a statement, he emphasized his commitment to maintaining low taxes for Americans, asserting that the bill prevents what he described as a potential historic tax increase.
Calvert highlighted several key provisions of the bill aimed at supporting various groups. “To support American workers, the bill eliminates federal income taxes on tips and overtime,” he stated. Additionally, it offers new tax relief for seniors and increases the state and local taxes (SALT) deduction cap to $40,000. The child tax credit is also extended and expanded under this legislation.
The bill seeks to benefit small businesses by expanding and making permanent their deductions while allowing 100% immediate expensing. It also allocates resources to continue building the southern Border Wall and investing in border security measures.
Calvert assured that there would be no cuts to Medicaid or changes to Social Security, Medicare, or veterans’ benefits. Instead, he noted that the bill aims to eliminate waste within Medicaid by introducing stricter eligibility checks and work requirements for certain recipients.
According to Calvert, “the only individuals estimated to lose Medicaid benefits because of the bill are illegal immigrants” along with ineligible recipients due to enhanced enforcement measures. He characterized these reforms as “reasonable” and “responsible.”
